The Greater Manchester Learning Provider Network and the University of Bolton are working in partnership to deliver a learning programme for members of the network and other key organisations involved in employer engagement.
This course is a Professional
Development (20 credits at Higher Education Level 4) in Measuring the Impact of
Learning and Development at the University
of Bolton. | ![]() |
Why do we need to measure the impact of learning and development?
- A reduction in public sector funding is leading to an increased pressure to offer provision that requires funding from employers – as such there is a greater need to demonstrate a Return on their Investment;
- There needs to be a greater shift in the way that the work based learning sector interacts with employers. The sector needs to make the move from “Making a Sale” to “Building a Relationship”.
- It is generally the case that businesses with a diverse product portfolio tend to have greater stability. This course will give participants instruction on how to extract employer need and create a commercially viable learning solution.
This experience will give participants the opportunity to:
- Encourage a long term commitment from your employers to Learning and Development;
- Improve the professional relationship between employers and you as a Provider of Learning;
- Allow employers to see the effect that investment in learning has on their bottom line;
- Allow employers to better link investment in their staff with the overall business strategy;
- Adjust the mindset of your employers to see Learning and Development as an investment rather than a cost;
- Get financial decision makers on side.
It will also:
- Change attitudes within the sector as to why we need to measure the impact of Learning and Development;
- Raise the profile of your Learning and Development with employers;
- Encourage originality and customisation of the Learning Offer;
- Encourage the involvement of more people across your organisation in meeting the needs of your employers.
This will be relevant to staff who are responsible for engaging/building a relationship with employers. For instance, a central business development team or other team members who have involvement with employers on a regular basis.
